I've been putting these through their paces on some loose, rocky terrain and the ESS rock guard really saved me from some nasty stubs. The mesh upper breathes well even when I'm working up a sweat, and the outsole feels planted on steep climbs.

Was out on a rocky trail yesterday and accidentally kicked a sharp stone — that ESS rock guard did its job perfectly, no pain or damage. The rugged outsole also gave me solid grip on loose gravel. Really happy with how sturdy they feel without being heavy.

The rock guard actually saved my feet on a scree-filled descent where I'd normally feel every sharp edge. Mesh upper breathes well enough that my socks stayed dry on a hot afternoon. Lightweight too, barely noticed them on the climbs.
